BALTIMORE, MD. - The Albright women's basketball team (0-1) opened their season on Friday (Nov. 10) evening against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (1-1) in the Goucher College Tournament. The Lions fell to the Yellow Jackets 72-64 in tonight's game.
Todays meeting was the first between the two schools since the 2016-17 season.
Albright found themselves in front after the opening quarter 16-14.
Orianna Edmond and
Mackenzie Dover paced the Lions scoring six and four first quarter points, respectively.
The second and third quarters went to Randolph-Macon taking a 60-38 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
Despite the deficit, Albright battled tough until the final whistle. In the fourth quarter, the Lions outscored Randolph-Macon 26-12. Albright cut the lead to seven with just under a minute left to play. However, the comeback bid fell just short with Yellow Jackets taking tonight's game 72-64.
Dover filled up the stat sheet tonight doing it all for Albright. Dover scored 13 points alone in the fourth quarter on her way to a game high 23 points. Dover shot 9-15 from the field while adding seven rebounds and four assists finishing one-point shy of her career high.
Kenedy Cooper made her collegiate debut tonight and finished in double figures with 10 points. Cooper added six rebounds and two assists in an all-around good game for the first-year guard.
Gigi Serrano hit two threes for the Lions on her way to scoring eight points in her first game as an Albright Lion.
Shakyla Mayo scored five points going 2-3 from the floor marking her first collegiate points.
