Men’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Marymount 77-74 in Overtime

The Albright men’s basketball team returned to the court on Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon at the Pablo Coto Tournament hosted by Marymount. The Lions suffered a tough loss today losing 77-74 in overtime.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Albright men's basketball team (1-1) returned to the court on Saturday afternoon after having the last 10 days off. The Lions squared off against Marymount (2-2) in the Pablo Coto Tournament on Saturday and dropped a tough one to Marymount 77-74 in overtime.  

In Albright's first game of the season, the Lions set a new program record for points scored in a game with 116 against Penn State Berks.

Today's game was the first against the Saints of Marymount for the Lions since the 2005-06 season. Albright won the last meeting in 2005 by a final score of 70-60.
The first half went to the Saints taking a 32-24 lead into halftime after 20 minutes of play. Albright found themselves in front by eight with just under eight minutes to play in the opening half however, Marymount used a late run to their advantage closing out the first half.

Robert Mangum and Isaac LaPierre paced the Lions offense in the first half each pouring in eight points. Mangum was perfect from beyond the arc going 2-2 while Lapierre went 2-3 from downtown in the first half.

Albright climbed back into the game in the early goings of the second half cutting into the Marymount lead. With seven minutes left to go in the game, Albright tied the game up at 54-54 on a Qadir Mitchell three-pointer.

Over the last seven minutes of the game, the two sides were unable to create separation from each other. Neither team held a lead of more than five points from the seven-minute mark until overtime. Marymount's Marcus Beckett drilled a three-pointer with eight seconds left on the clock to force the game into overtime at 64-64.

In overtime, the Saints were able to close out the Lions stealing the game on their home floor, 77-74.

Mangum led all Albright scorers in today's game with 17 points including going 5-8 from three-point range. Mangum added five rebounds and three assists to his overall stat line.

Eric Chamberlain and Jeremiah Stanton rounded out the Lions in double figures this afternoon scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively. Chamberlain was strong on the defensive side of the floor tying his own program record for steals in a game with seven.

Albright takes to the court tomorrow afternoon against either University of Dallas or Mary Baldwin. The game will begin at 12 p.m. for Albright from Arlington, Virginia.
