Women’s Basketball Suffers Tough Loss to Gwynedd Mercy 69-63

The Albright women’s basketball team suffered a tough loss on Wednesday evening dropping the nonconference match to Gwynedd Mercy 69-63 on the road.

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team (3-4) returned to the court on Wednesday (Dec. 6) evening on the road against Gwynedd Mercy University (6-4). The Griffins got the better of the Lions this evening dropping tonight's non-conference game 69-63.

Albright opened up their six-game road trip this past Saturday (Dec. 2) with a 61-51 win over Lebanon Valley College. Tonight's game marked the second of six straight road games.

The first quarter went to the Lions leading 11-8 after 10 minutes of play. CJ Apistar and Mackenzie Dover led the way in the first scoring nine of the teams 11 points. Apistar had five points while Dover had four.

Dover finished with 11 points in the first half giving the Lions a four-point advantage, 28-24 after 20 minutes of play. Saidat Abbas came on strong in the second period scoring seven points going perfect from the free throw line and draining one three.

The Albright defense was strong in the first half holding the Griffins to 25.8% shooting from the floor.

In the early going of the second half, the Lions caught fire on the offensive end. Albright used an 11-6 run to being the second half capped off by Apistar's second three of the game to lead 39-30. The offense continued to roll in the third period scoring 27 points on a scorching 59.1% from the field.

Despite the lead, the Griffins were able to climb back into the game in the fourth period. Gwyneed Mercy used a 23-8 run to close the game out to beat Albright on their home floor.  

Dover once again paced the Lions offense going for 25 points. Dover now has back to back games of 25+ points after scoring 27 last time out against LVC. Dover added seven rebounds and four assists to her overall stat line.

Apistar and Abbas rounded out the Lions in double figures each scoring 11 points. Apistar added five rebounds and five assists.

Gigi Serrano filled up the stat sheet for Albright going for eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Albright will head to Neumann University on Saturday, December 6. The game is set for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
