MADISON, N.J. - The Albright College men's lacrosse team (0-1) opened their season on the road today and dropped a tightly contested match against FDU-Florham, 12-11.
Today's game marks the first time that newly minted head coach Erich Skelly roamed the sidelines for the Lions.
Albright struck first, scoring the game's first two goals.
Nick Antonio and
Jay Shifflet each beat the FDU-Florham keeper for the first Lion goals of the 2023 season.
After being down by four goals Albright fought all the way back to take the lead 8-7 at halftime. Shifflet scored a first half hat trick to pace the Lions offensively.
Jack Burke and
Ryan Houghtaling each scored twice in the first half for Albright.
Lucas Roselli claimed the first goal in the second half just under a minute into the second half.
Heading into the fourth Albright held a two goal advantage but could not keep FDU-Florham away. The hosts turned up the heat defensively in the final period and scored three unanswered goals to steal the victory from Albright.
Burke led the way for the Lions today scoring three times and dishing out three assists.
Houghtaling and Shifflet each scored three times in the season opener.

The Albright men's lacrosse team will return home for the home opener next Saturday (Feb.18) against Drew University. The game will start at 3:00 p.m. and will also serve as the "Youth Day" game for the program.
