READING, Pa. - The Albright College women's basketball team (17-7, 11-4 MAC Commonwealth) was in action this afternoon hosting Stevenson (7-16, 6-8 MAC Commonwealth) and won by a final score of 59-48.
Today's win is the fourth in a row for the Lions and keeps their unbeaten home record after the new year intact. The Lions remain the two seed and are one game in front of third seed Alvernia in the MAC Commonwealth standings. A win on Tuesday (Feb.14) would lock up the two seed for Albright and thus be rewarded with a home playoff game.
Prior to the start of today's game the Albright women's basketball program honored their seniors for all their hard work and dedication over the years to the program. The graduating seniors are
Lindsey Williamson and
Amy Jones.
Jones earned the start today and scored on the first shot from the floor for the Lions. Albright led 15-9 early courtesy of two first quarter
Amina Rauf three pointers.
The defense turned the pressure all the way up on Stevenson, holding them without a basket for nearly the first seven minutes of the second quarter. The tenacious second quarter defense gave the Lions a 26-17 lead at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Lions and Mustangs played a fairly even third quarter. With three minutes to go in the quarter Albright began to pull away closing the third on an 8-0 run.
Stevenson cut the lead down to one possession on multiple occasions in the fourth but could not overcome Albright. With three and change left to play Albright went on a 9-1 to close the game winning by a final of 59-48.
Boggs led the way for Albright in this one pouring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. For Boggs, it is her 13th double-double of the season.
Rauf scored 11 points draining three three's playing 39 minutes. Rauf wasn't done there as she noteched eight assists (career high), four rebounds and four steals.
Julia Zakovitch shot 80% from the field on her way to eight crucial points off the bench.
