Men’s Basketball Edged Out by Alvernia

The Albright men’s basketball team was in action on Saturday afternoon and was edged out by cross town rival Alvernia 92-78.

READING, Pa. - The Albright College men's basketball team (7-14, 4-9 MAC Commonwealth) was edged out this afternoon by the visiting Golden Wolves from Alvernia (16-6, 10-3 MAC Commonwealth) by a final score of 92-78.

The first half was a defensive battle as the two sides struggled to find their offensive rhythm. In addition neither team led by more than six points throughout the first half. An Albright bucket from Jeremiah Stanton cut the Lion deficit to five at the break.

Chris Kouemi was all over the glass offensively and defensively in the first 20 minutes. Kouemi hauled in 14 first half rebounds and added six points for good measure.

It was a two point game with under 10 minutes to play in front of a raucous Bollman Center. However, Alvernia was able to use a 9-0 run to pull away from the Lions and ultimately head home with the victory.

Kouemi put up a monster double-double finishing the game with 17 points and 19 rebounds. The 19 rebounds in a game is tied for the sixth most in Albright's program history.

Eric Chamberlain shot 60% from the floor and 9-12 from the free throw line scoring a career high 23 points. The sophomore guard added three assists and three rebounds to his overall stat line.

Stanton poured in a career high 20 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor including going 4-6 from long range. Zyon Grant rounded out the Lions in double figures with 13.
