Men’s Basketball Grabs Gritty Conference Win over Eastern

The Albright men’s basketball team picked up a huge road victory over Eastern 80-72 in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday night.

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Albright College men's basketball team (8-14, 5-9 MAC Commonwealth) delivered a huge road victory over Eastern (14-8, 7-6 MAC Commonwealth) in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) on Wednesday night.

Tonight's win was a true team win for Albright getting contributions from up and down the lineup. 10 different Lions scored a basket in the game while nine different Lions played 13 minutes or more in the contest.

Albright trailed early but quickly found their groove midway through the first half. A Robert Mangum three and two subsequent fast break baskets from Qadir Mitchell put the Lions up seven.

Albright remained in the lead for the remainder of the first half taking a 39-37 lead into halftime. Mangum was perfect from the field in the first half collecting 11 first half points. Mitchell provided seven first half points off the bench providing a spark for the Lions.

It was a gutsy second half performance from the Lions to come away with the road victory. Eastern threatened on multiple occasions but could not overcome the tenacity of the Lions who led for all but 40 seconds of the frame.

Picking up with under four minutes to go, Albright led by two and was beginning to pull away from Eastern. Going 4-5 from the field down the stretch and forcing Eastern into four turnovers put Albright in a good position to win. An 11-5 Lions run to close the game propelled the Lions to a huge 80-72 conference win.

Mangum went 8-9 (4-5 3 PT) from the field on his way to a career high 23 points. The senior guard filled up the stat sheet grabbing six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Mitchell came off the bench and produced a career high 11 points on 4-6 shooting. The first year guard hauled in three rebounds in addition to his career shooting performance. Eric Chamberlain did a little bit of everything for Albright scoring 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.

In all, 10 different Lions scored a basket from the field tonight in a true team effort.
