READING, PA. - The Albright College baseball team (1-8) was in action today on Wednesday afternoon and rallied late by scoring five runs in the 8th inning to comeback and win the game over Delaware Valley (3-4) in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) division crossover action, 6-3.
Delaware Valley would plate three runs in the first inning. After the first inning the Albright pitching staff shut down the Delaware Valley offense, not allowing them to score a single run the rest of the way.
Josh Tudor came on in relief and was masterful for the Lions. Tudor went four scoreless innings and scattered three hits and struck out three batters. Tudor did not allow a Delaware Valley base runner to reach third base while he was on the mound.
The Albright bats began to find some life in the 6th inning and began cutting into the deficit. Tommy Lewman led off the 6th with a single and advanced to second on a Roman Berretta walk. Lewman advanced to third on a fielder's choice. John O'Connor was next in the order and delivered a sacrifice fly for the Lions first run making it a 3-1 Aggie lead.
In the top of the 8th inning Deklyn Marks made a fantastic play at 2nd base ranging to his left getting to a ball in the hole to keep the Lions deficit at only two runs. Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning the Lions bat came alive rallying for five runs in the inning.
Albright put together five straight hits without recording an out. A leadoff double by Lewman, followed by a Berretta single put Lewman into scoring position. Reece Adam was next and delivered an RBI single to make it a 3-2 ballgame. O'Connor kept the hit parade going after Adam and loaded the bases with a single of his own.
Jack Gilmer delivered the big hit of the inning with a double to right field that scored O'Connor, Adam and Berretta to give the Lions the 5-3 lead. Gilmer later advanced to third and was brought home on a Eddie Meredith sacrifice fly padding the Albright advantage making it a 6-3 game heading into the top of the ninth inning.
Adam Ferdock came in for the save and did just that. Ferdock allowed two hits but got the ground ball he needed for his defense. The game ended on a classic 6-4-3 double play sending Albright home with a 6-3 victory over the Aggies.
Zander Tesoriere and Lewman each had two hits in today's game. Berretta, Adam, O'Connor and Gilmer each had one hit and one run scored today for Albright. The winning pitcher today was Albright's Trey Smith who moves to 1-0 and Ferdock earned his first save shutting the door on the Aggies.
