Women’s Lacrosse Downs McDaniel Behind Big Fourth Period

The Albright women’s lacrosse team was in Clearwater Florida on their Spring Break trip for today's game and downed McDaniel behind five fourth period goals, 14-12.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Albright women's lacrosse team (4-2) played today's game in Clearwater Florida on their Spring Break trip and downed McDaniel (3-3), 14-12. The Lions scored five times in the fourth period for their third win in a row.

During today's thrilling victory, graduate student Ashleigh Tortorice scored her 100th goal of her Albright career during today's game. In the second period, Tortorice notched her second goal of the game which also marked her 100th career goal.

The game started at 10 a.m. local time but the two teams were ready to go early and often. The two teams combined for a total of 10 goals through the first 15 minutes of play. At the end of the first period McDaniel led Albright 6-4.

Brianna Kung had her hands in the first two Albright goals of the game. Kung assisted on Chloe Fornoff's game opening goal and later scored herself for a quick two points in the box score.

The McDaniel and Albright offenses cooled off in the second period seeing McDaniel take a slim 7-6 lead into halftime. Abbie Moist and Kayte Moist scored back to back goals for the Lions in the second period to cut the Green Terror lead in half.

Tortorice and Lauren China had the tallies for the Lions in the third heading into the fourth period still only trailing by one. For Tortorice it was her third of the game and for China her first of the game.

In the fourth period, China took over the game and scored three times in the frame to lead the Lions to victory. China tied up the game at 10, followed by a Fornoff goal that tied the game at 11. An A. Moist and another China goal made the score 13-11 Lions with 7:25 to play. China scored her third of the period with four minutes to go giving the Lions a two goal cushion down the stretch.

Albright goalkeeper Caelainn Morrison made 12 saves in the game and two clutch saves in the closing minutes of today's game to help the Lions secure the 14-12 spring break victory.

Kyra Lycett set a new career high for ground balls recorded in a single game with six today against McDaniel.

The Lions will travel back up the east coast for a March 18, Saturday afternoon home matchup against Swarthmore. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
