READING, PA. - The Albright College softball team (0-2, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth was in action for the first time this season and hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe Messiah (10-5 MAC Commonwealth) for a pair of Saturday afternoon games.
The Lions finally got their season underway after their first two games on the schedule were canceled due to poor field conditions back in February. The Lions were supposed to open up their season back in February with a pair of games against New Paltz and Rutgers-Camden.
Today's game marks the first MAC Commonwealth contests for both teams this season.
GAME 1: L, 10-0 (5 INN)
Messiah scored twice in the top of the first inning and jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play.
Veronica Heckman recorded the first hit of the season for the Lions. Heckman put together a nice at bat and was rewarded with a single in the bottom of the third inning.
Also getting on base today for Albright in game one was Summer Leeds. Leeds drew a one out walk in the bottom of the first inning in her first at bat as an Albright Lion.
Messiah was able to keep the Albright bats quiet and take game one for the Lions.
GAME 2: L, 8-0 (6 INN)
Veronica Heckman led off the game for the Lions in game number two and wasted no time reaching base. Heckman laced a double for Albright, getting in scoring position.
Due up third in the bottom of the first the Mya Mrakich got in the box score recording her first hit in her collegiate career. Mrakich was credited with a single putting runners on the corners for the Lions. Albright threatened in the bottom of the first but could not find the big hit to bring home the runners on base.
Messiah would plate two runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead on Albright after three innings.
After an Emma Davis walk in the third inning, Heckman collected her second hit of the game (third of the day) this time by way of a single.
The Falcons pulled away late from the Lions to take the second game of the season opening double header for Albright.
Mrakich went 2-3 in the second game giving the first year her first multi hit game of her young Albright career.

The Lions will rest up tomorrow before the softball team heads to Penn State Berks on Monday, March 20 for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and game 2 will start roughly three 30 minutes after game 1.
