Softball Sweeps Lancaster Bible College in Doubleheader

The Albright College softball team swept Lancaster Bible College in doubleheader action today taking game one 4-1 and game two 11-7.

LANCASTER, PA. - The Albright College softball team (2-4, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) got strong pitching in game one and hot bats in game two to complete the sweep over Lancaster Bible College (4-6).

The Lions produced 31 hits and 15 runs across the two games and including 20 hits in game two.

GAME 1: W, 4-1

The Lions racked up 11 hits for the game and had at least one hit in every inning but one.

Albright got on the board first in the second inning. Kaitlyn Aasheim led off with a double and Jordan Melson knocked home Aasheim with a double of her own.

Emma Davis kept the line moving, hitting a single and advancing to second on the throw. Melson would later plate the second run of the inning for Albright scoring on an Lancaster Bible College error.

Aasheim started on the mound in game one and delivered for the Lions. Aasheim got through three innings before allowing a hit to Lancaster Bible College. Albright led 2-0 after five innings.

In the top of the fifth Jadelyn Van Winkle single and later advanced to second to put a runner in scoring position. Heather Pomante added to the Albright lead, doubling to right field to plate Van Winkle.

Albright led 3-1 heading into the seventh and gave themselves an insurance run in the inning. Madison Lasko tripled to right field putting the insurance run only 60 feet away. Lasko would come in to score on an error by the Chargers first baseman.

Aasheim was brilliant on the mound for Albright, going the distance scattering three hits and allowing only one run. In addition, Aasheim struck out four batters earning her first career complete game and win in her collegiate career.

Heckman went 3-4 and Lasko went 2-4 to lead the Lions offense in game one.


GAME 2: W, 11-7 

The Lions bats were on fire in game two collecting 20 total hits and scoring 11 runs.

The game was tied 0-0 heading into the third inning when Albright broke the game open. The Lions scored eight times in the inning which wound up being enough in the end.

In the third inning, Albright sent 15 batters to the plate. Kathryn Baptiste, Mya Mrakich, Jadelyn Van Winkle all recorded two hits in the inning. Baptiste doubled and singled, Mrakich singled twice and Van Winkle singled twice.

Heckman recorded two RBI's in the inning while Baptiste, Van Winkle and Davis each recorded one RBI.

The Lions found themselves up 8-7 heading into the seventh and got more clutch hitting up and down the lineup. Baptiste, Van Winkle, and Madison Lasko singled two loaded bases with one out. After loading the bases, the Lions took advantage of Lancaster Bible miscuesand scored four times in the inning.

Baptiste shut the door in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep and win game two 11-7.

Van Winkle and Baptiste both had four hits in today's game. Davis had three, and Heckman, Heather Pomante and Mrakich each had two.


UP NEXT:
Albright softball will return home this weekend for another MAC Commonwealth doubleheader matchup with Eastern. Game 1 will get underway at 1 p.m. and game 2 will start roughly 30 minutes after game 1.
