READING, PA. - The Albright College baseball team (3-13, 1-8 MAC Commonwealth) was in action on Sunday afternoon after inclement weather forced a postponement of the originally scheduled doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 25). The Lions earned the split with Eastern (4-16, 2-7 MAC Commonwealth) dropping game one but bouncing back to take game two.
Today's MAC Commonwealth win was the first conference win for Albright since the 2021 season when Albright defeated Stevenson 13-4 on March 21, 2021.
Eastern was the home team for both games today.
GAME 1: L, 5-1
Albright threatened in the top of the first inning but could not find the clutch hit they needed. Zander Tesoriere led off with a single and later stole second. Roman Berretta singled to put two runners on but the Lions threat was halted there ending the top half of the first scoreless.
Eastern plated three runs in the first and two runs in the second to open up a 5-0 lead on the Lions.
Nicolas Natalie came on in relief and was fantastic for Albright in game one. Natalie threw 2 ⅔ innings only giving up one hit, striking out five and not allowing a single run.
Eddie Meredith singled in the top of the seventh inning and later came around to score on a Tesoriere groundout to avoid the shutout for Albright.
Eastern's John Beck had good stuff today on the mound going the distance giving the Eagles a 5-1 game one victory.
John O'Connor went 2-3 in game one and Meredith matched O'Connor at the plate going 2-3 and a run scored.
GAME 2: W, 5-4
Game two was scoreless into the fourth inning before the Lions got on the board first courtesy of the long ball. Meredith got the pitch he was looking for and knew exactly what to do with it. Meredith squared up the pitch and blasted a two run shot over the fence in left center field.
For Mereidth it was his first home run this season and the second home run of the junior's career.
Deklyn Marks was on base for Mereidth's home run reaching on an RBI single of his own that scored Jack Gilmer from second base.Albright led 3-0 after four innings.
Josh Tudor got the start for Albright in game two and kept the Eastern lineup on the ropes. Tudor went five innings scattering four hits and having two runs charged to his line.
Albright added to their lead in the sixth inning after loading the bases with no outs. Jack Gilmer singled to start the inning, Marks reached on a fielder's choice and Meredith reached on an error. With one Tommy Lewman did a great job of putting the ball in play to plate Albright's fourth run of the day.
Eastern's bats woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at four heading into the final inning.
Despite losing the Lead the Lions never wavered and took the lead right back in the top of the seventh inning. Reece Adam led off being hit by a pitch and stole second getting into scoring position with no outs. After an O'Connor walk and a Nick Barton single, Marks was up and once again got the bat on the ball forcing Eastern to make a play. Marks reached on a fielder's choice but he got the job done scoring Adam from third.
Adam Ferdock came into the game with two outs and the sixth. Ferdock shut the door on Eastern in the seventh inning securing the MAC Commonwealth victory for the Lions winning the game 5-4.
Beretta went 2-4 in game two and Barton, Gilmer, Marks and Meredith all recorded one hit in game two for Albright. Ferdock got the win and is now 2-2 on the season.
