Baseball Falls at Home to Muhlenberg in a Non Conference Double Header

The Albright baseball team was in action on Sunday afternoon squaring off against Muhlenberg in two seven inning games. The visitors won game one 13-2 and the Mules took game two, 7-4.

READING, PA. - The Albright College baseball team (0-5) was in action on Sunday afternoon after their away double header against Muhlenberg (2-1-1) was moved from Saturday (Mar. 4) to Sunday (Mar. 5). Muhlenberg took both games from the Lions winning the first game 13-2 and the second game 7-4.

GAME 1: L, 13-2 (7 Innings)

The first inning saw six total runs come across the plate between the two teams. The Mules struck first putting four on the board in the first.

The Lions were able to battle back in the bottom of the frame, plating two runs of their own.

Zander Tesoriere was slotted into the leadoff spot today and deposited a double into left center field in his first at bat. Roman Berretta followed up Tesoriere with a single of his own to put runners at corners with one out.

Next up was Reece Adam who singled through the right side plating Tesoriere from third for Albrights first run of the game. Jack Gilmer followed suit and knocked in Berretta on an RBI single of his own.

The Mules plated fours in third and then another one in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-2 after five innings of play. Muhlenberg was able to keep the Alright bats at bay for the remainder of the game and won game one of the doubleheader, 13-2.

First year starters Tommy Lewman and Deklyn Marks both extended their hit streaks to four games to start the season in game one.

Lewman went 2-4 with a pair of singles and Marks went 1-2 with a single and a walk. Lewman is now batting an impressive .636 through four games this season. Marks is not far behind as he has enjoyed a nice start to his first year season producing a .571 batting average through four games.

GAME 2: L, 7-4 (7 Innings)

Unlike the first contest, game number two was a pitchers duel in the early innings. Lucas Williams got the start for the Lions and was strong through his four plus innings of work. After giving up an unearned run in the first Williams settled down and got through 4 ⅓ scattering four hits while striking out three.

The Lions struggled to get the bats going in the second game scattering five hits across the seven innings of play.

In the 6th inning Albright had runners on second and third but were only able to plate one run in the inning. Adam drove in Tesoriere on a sacrifice fly to plate the Lions first run.

In the 7th inning Albright was not going down without a fight looking to pull off the late comeback. An Eddie Meredith walk, a Marks HPB and a dropped third strike loaded the bases for the Lions in the bottom of the seventh.

Albright was able to take advantage of the dropped third strike courtesy of heads up base running by Meredith scoring from third.

Roman Berretta roped a double over the outfielders head scoring two runs on the play. Marks and Tesoriere both came around to score to cut the Lion deficit down to 7-4. However the comeback was not meant to be as Adam put a great swing on the ball but it was right at the Muhlenberg defender for the game's final out.

Lewman extended his hitting streak to five games to start the season in game two. Berretta led the way offensively for Albright in game two going 2-4 with two RBIs.

Also producing a hit in game two was Adam and Dominic Borelli.
