READING, Pa. - The Albright men's lacrosse team (3-8, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) evened up their MAC Commonwealth record on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 10-3 win over Alvernia (4-6, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth).
Today's win is the first win in conference play this season sitting at 1-1 in the conference. Albright allowed a season low in goals today only giving up three to the Golden Wolves Including blanking Alvernia in the second and fourth periods.
The first period ended at 2-2 in a tightly contested opening 15 minutes. Jay Shifflet scored the first for the Lions and Lucas Roselli followed up with a goal of his own. Both goals for Albright were unassisted.
Shifflet added another in the second period to give Albright a 3-2 lead. Jack Burke scored his 32 goal of the season to double up the Golden Wolves and giving the Lions a 4-2 lead at halftime.
Albright did not allow a goal in the second period forcing Alvernia into eight turnovers. Goalkeeper Ethan Hendershot was called upon twice in the second period and calmly made both saves for Albright.
Roselli scored the next two Albright goals to start pulling away from Alvernia. The first Roselli goal in the frame came in a man down situation. Roselli is now up to 31 goals on the season. Ryan Houghtaling and Luke Williams also got into the box score a goal in the third period.
With the game well in hand and the Lions leading 8-3 heading into the final period, Roselli scored his fourth of the day outscoring Alvernia all by himself. Shifflet scored the 10th goal of the day for Albright giving the attackman another hat trick on the season.
Nick Antonio, Hunter Fitterling and Shifflet all had two caused turnovers. Antonio had three ground balls, Fitterling five and Shifflet four creating havoc on the defense end.
Hendershot was fantastic in net today for Albright making 12 saves. Hendershot shutout Alvernia for two out of the four quarters on his way to his third win of the season.
