WLAX: Tortorice OT Winner Completes Comeback Over Alvernia 17-16

Ashleigh Tortorice Overtime goal propels the Lions past Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth Saturday afternoon action. The Lions erased a five goal deficit at the half to win the game in overtime 17-16.

READING, Pa. - The Albright women's lacrosse team (8-3, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) erased a five goal deficit at halftime to take the game 17-16 over Alvernia (6-4, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) to remain perfect in MAC Commonwealth play. Ashleigh Tortorice was the hero for Albright scoring less than a minute into the overtime period.

Albright is now winners of four straight games and have won seven of their last eight games overall. Albright has already surpassed last seasons win total by three games picking up their eighth win of the season today.

Albright found themselves down by five at half but roared all the way back in the second half and overtime. The Lions outscored the Golden Wolves by 11-5 in the second half plus overtime to steal the game from Alvernia.

Four different Lions scored three or more goals in today's game led by Kayte Moist who scored a game high five goals. Lauren China, Abbie Moist and Ashleigh Tortorice all scored three times for Albright in the game.

Coming into today's game China needed just two points to reach 200 career points at Albright. China added an assist to her three goals for a total of four points on the day. China's career total points now sits at 202 in an Albright uniform. A. Moist recorded four points today and now sits just one point shy of 100 career points at Albright.

Chole Fornoff and Brianna Kung scored for Albright in the first period. Kayte Moist scored twice in the second period while Tortorice and A. Moist each scored once. Alvernia led 11-6 at halftime.

Albright began to find their rhythm starting in the third period. The Lions outscored the Golden Wolves 4-1 in the period to close the gap on the Alvernia lead. Kayte Moist added two goals in the period while China and Cynthia Schneider added a goal of their own for the Lions. Schneider, who starts on the Lions defense, collected her first goal of her career.

The Lions scored six times in the fourth period and needed every one to send the game into overtime. China, A. Moist, K. Moist and Tortorice all scored in the fourth period to combine for six goals. At the end of regulation the game was tied 16-16.

Just a mere 47 seconds into the extra frame, Graduate student Tortorice decided to take matters into her own hands and end the game. The Tortorice overtime game winner was the first overtime win of the season for the Lions.

Tortorice registered two assists while Sarah Chernis, Zoe Dicks, Fornoff, China and A.Moist all had one assist for Albright. In addition, Fornoff registered seven draw controls and two groundballs.

Albright will return home for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, April 5 against Stevenson. The game will be under the lights at 7 p.m.
