READING, Pa. - The Albright women's lacrosse team (8-5, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) went toe to toe with Widener (9-4, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) during tonight's game but came up just short, falling to the Pride 12-8 at Shirk Stadium.
Nine goals came across the scoreboard in the first period. Widener led Albright 6-3 after one quarter of play.
Kyra Lycett, Chloe Fornoff and Kayte Moist all tallied first period goals for the Lions. Ashleigh Tortorice was credited with an assist on Lycett's goal and Marisa Cocca got the assist on the K. Moist goal.
The second period started and the goals stopped coming for both sides as both Widener and Albright's defense started to find their groove in the game. K. Moist found her second of the game for Albright in the second period. Widener held a 8-4 halftime advantage.
Albright and Widener played an even third period each scoring one goal. Goalkeeper Caelainn Morrison made four saves for Albright in the period. Abbie Moist got on the scoresheet scoring her free position attempt to cut the Lion deficit to 9-5 heading into the fourth and final frame.
Each team scored three goals in the period but that would not be enough for Albright falling to Widener by four, 12-8.
Fornoff, K. Moist and Lycett each scored twice for Albright while Brianna Kung and A. Moist each tallied one goal. Lauren China, Lycett and Fornoff each collected four draw controls a piece.
Widener head coach Sophie Bass played for coach Willis at Albright and still holds the single season record for assists (41) and points (91) at the Albright College.
