DOYLESTOWN, PA. - The Albright College softball team (3-17, 0-6 MAC Commonwealth) received a dominant game two pitching performance from Jadelyn Van Winkle earning the doubleheader split against Delaware Valley (7-21-1) shutting out the Aggies 5-0.
GAME 1: L, 9-1 (5 INN)
Delaware Valley jumped on Albright scoring four runs in the first inning. The Lions got a two out double from Mya Mrakich in the top of the first inning but could not bring her home.
The Aggies scored four more runs in the fourth inning to take game one over the Lions.
Albright was able to put a run on the board in the top of the fifth inning of game one jump starting the offense for game two. Kaitlyn Aasheim doubled to left field to lead off the fifth inning and came around to score on an RBI from Summer Leeds.
GAME 2: W, 5-0
It was all Albright in game two getting a masterful pitching performance from Jadelyn Van Winkle and timely hitting from the offense.
Van Winkle shutdown Delaware Valley scattering six hits and striking out five batters going the distance. In the bottom of the third Van Winkle got into a jam but got a groundout to second base to end the Aggie threat. The momentum on the defensive side lead to a big inning in the top of the fourth.
The game was tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth but the Albright bats came to life scoring five runs in the inning. The first four batters of the inning for Albright all reached base. Mya Mrakich walked and advanced to third on a Van Winkle double. Madison Lasko was next and reached on an error, scoring Mrakich for the first run of the inning.
After a Kaitlyn Aasheim RBI single Emma Davis kept the lineup moving, singling to center field, scoring Aasheim and Lasko. Mrakich came up to bat again and closed the five run fourth with an RBI walk.
The five run inning was all Van Winkle needed as she did not allow a Aggie runner to reach past second base over the final three innings.
In addition to the shutout complete game, Van Winkle went 2-4 in game two with a run scored. Veronica Heckman, Kathryn Baptiste, Aasheim and Davis all recorded a hit for the Lions in the game.

Albright will be off tomorrow (Apr.14) before hosting Stevenson on Saturday, April 15. Game one starts at 1 p.m. and game 2 will follow. On Saturday, the Lions are dedicating the game to "Striking out Cancer" through the NFCA.
