Softball Drops MAC Commonwealth Road Doubleheader to Widener

The Albright College softball team continued their busy week on Wednesday afternoon playing two games against Widener on the road.

READING, PA. - The Albright College softball team (3-23, 0-10 MAC Commonwealth) played in their fifth and sixth games of the week on Wednesday afternoon going on the road to Widener (14-18, 3-7 MAC Commonwealth) dropping both games of the doubleheader to the Pride.

GAME 1: L, 4-1

Only one run was scored across the first four innings of game one. Veronica Heckman broke through for Albright and reached base in the third inning on an error by the Widener first baseman. Despite making the Widener pitcher work in the inning the Lions were unable to plate a run.

The Pride scored three runs in the fifth inning, which proved to be the difference in game one.

In the seventh inning, the Lions got through the first two runners on in the inning in the form of Kaitlyn Aasheim and Madison Lasko. Lasko reached base on a walk and advanced to third on the single from Aasheim. Lasko came around to score on a stolen base attempt from pinch runner Summer Leeds.


GAME 2: L, 7-3

The Pride jumped on Albright in the first inning scoring three runs in the frame. The four runs proved to be the difference in the game with Widener winning, capping off the double header.

Jadelyn Van Winkle came on in relief in game two striking out five batters in 5 ⅔ innings pitched.

Mya Mrakich, Kaitlyn Aasheim and Emma Davis all recorded a hit for the Lions in game two.

Aasheim collected a hit in both games of the double header for the second time this season.

Mrakich has been on a tear of late going 6-12 over the last four games. Mrakich's season average sits just below the .300 mark at .296.


UP NEXT:
The Lions will be back on their home field on Saturday for Senior Day facing off against Lebanon Valley College in a doubleheader. Game 1 will start at 1 p.m while game 2 will follow the conclusion of game 1.
