SCRANTON, PA. - The Albright College baseball team (7-28, 2-22 MAC Commonwealth) held on for an 8-7 victory over Marywood (14-20) on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions collected 14 hits on their way to eight runs. The eight total runs were scored in two innings for the Lions scoring five runs in the second inning and three runs in the sixth inning.
The first five innings were dominated by Albright taking a 5-1 lead into the away half of the sixth inning. Albright used their big five run second inning to take early control of the game.
A John O'Connor walk and a single each from Eddie Meredith and Zander Tesoriere loaded the bases with nobody out in the second inning. The next three of four batters for Albright produced RBIs in the form of a Reece Adam walk, a Deklyn Marks RBI single and a Roman Berretta sacrifice fly.
Nick Barton had the big hit of the second inning lacing a single up the middle for two more Albright runs. The second inning two RBI single was part of Barton's big day at the plate. The Albright catcher went 4-5 with four singles and three RBI's to raise his season batting average to a team leading .341 percentage.
The sixth inning produced three more runs for Albright. Barton and Meredith both singled in the inning producing another RBI for Barton and two RBI's Meredith.
The Pacers of Marywood battled back and made it an 8-7 ballgame with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Lukas Khandagle came on in relief for the final two outs of the game and got the final two outs with a little help from his defense. Khandagle got the groundball he needed when he got the Marywood batter to roll over to third for the game ending 5-2-3 double play.
Marks, Meredith, Tesoriere and Tommy Lewman all recorded two hits on the day. Berretta and Gilmer ended their days with one hit a piece.
