FREDERICK, MD. - The Albright College Softball team (3-27, 0-14 MAC Commonwealth) concluded the April portion of the schedule this afternoon traveling to Hood College (14-24, 4-12 MAC Commonwealth) for a pair of games against the Blazers. Hood College took both games of the double header over Albright.
GAME 1: L, 13-4
Game one was all tied at 4-4 after two innings of play. Jadelyn Van Winkle brought home the first run of the day for Albright, scoring Mya Mrakich on a sacrifice fly.
The second inning saw three runs come across the plate in the frame. Kathryn Baptiste started the inning with a single and would come around to score on a big hit from Mrakich.
Mrakich came to the plate with runners on first and third after Emma Davis was hit by a pitch. Mrakich laced a double to right field to score Baptiste and Davis and would later score herself on the play after a throwing error from the Hood right fielder.
Hood scored five runs across the final two innings to pull away from Albright and take game one.
Baptiste finished game one with two hits while Mrakich finished with two runs scored. First year catcher Madison Lasko added a single for Albright in the game.
GAME 2: L, 9-5
Eight total runs came across the board in the first inning. Four runs from Albright and four runs from Hood.
Baptiste brought her hot bat into game two leading off game two with a double. Lasko and Van Winkle walked to load the bases with no outs.
After an error from the Blazers that scored an Albright run and a lineout from the Lions, Heather Pomante broke through with a two RBI single to right field. Jordan Melson was next and reached on a fielder's choice that scored Kaitlin Aasheim from third.
Albright got within two runs of Hood in the fifth inning on a Van Winkle blast over the left field fence. The homerun for Van Winkle was the first of the career for the sophomore.
Collecting two hits in game two was Baptiste and Van Winkle. Baptiste finished the two games going 4-7 with two runs scored. Van Winkle finished the two games going 2-5 with a run scored, two RBIs and a home run.
