READING, PA – The Albright volleyball team opened their season today hosting a tri-match against Bryn Athyn and McDaniel. The Lions opened with McDaniel and played one of the most exciting matches you will see to open a season suffering a narrow defeat in five sets to the Green Terror. The Lions responded beautifully in the second match sweeping Bryn Athyn to split the two matches on the day.
GAME 1: Albright 2 McDaniel 3 (20-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-16, 15-13)
The opening game for the season had enough action for the entire season. Albright and McDaniel were two very evenly matched teams with neither side pulling away from one another throughout the match.
The Lions took the opening set giving themselves an early lead over the Green Terror. McDaniel responded to tie the match. The two sides would split the third and fourth sets sending the game to a decisive fifth set.
Picking up in the fifth set with the Green Terror jumping out to an early 7-1 advantage. The Lions were tough all match and did not go down without a fight. Albright rattled off eight straight points to take a 9-7 lead. First year
Neve Straff tallied two kills during the run.
However, the comeback was not meant to be as Albright suffered one of the closest you can have in a match.
Straff led the way in the opening match recording 13 kills in her first collegiate match.
Sophie Hampton,
Rachel Etim each tallied six kills while
Paola Mejias recorded five of her own.
Shelby Cheuvront was strong defensively recording 14 digs.
GAME 2: Albright 3 Bryn Athyn 0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-16)
The Lions responded well after the first match sweeping Bryn Athyn and leaving no doubt who was the better side.
Albright jumped on Bryn Athyn early and never looked back. Hampton recorded three first set kills to lead the way for Albright.
Sets two and three were all Albright winning each set comfortably. Albright maintained an arm's length advantage dominating from start to finish in the match.
Elle Haddon was strong for the Lions offensively tallying eight kills in the match. Hampton also recoded eight kills to match Haddon.
Nine different Lions recorded at least one kill in the match sweeping in a complete team effort.
Lindsey Korn was all over the court defensively for Albright having 11 digs. Mejias also notched double digit digs recording 10. Much like the kills Albright saw 10 different players have at least one dig.

Albright will be back at it on Tuesday, September 5 at home against Notre Dame of Maryland. The home match will begin at 7 p.m. from the Bollman Center.
