Women’s Soccer Drops Home Match to Wilkes 1-0

The Albright women’s soccer team was in action on Wednesday night on a chilly evening in Reading, Pa. Tonight's 1-0 loss to Wilkes is the first home defeat Albright has suffered this season.

READING, PA. - The Albright women's soccer team (3-3-1) hosted Wilkes University (0-2-3) on Wednesday evening. The back and forth match was won by Wilkes 1-0 on a late first half goal from the visitors.

On Monday afternoon of this week, Haley Denuto was named MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week for her two-goal effort last week. Denuto is the third women's soccer student-athlete to be named MAC Player of the Week.

Each team had their fair share of opportunities in the first half to put themselves ahead.

Albright's best opportunity came in the 26th minute of play. Nyla Callahan broke through the Wilkes defense and was denied at the doorstep by the Wilkes goalkeeper keeping the game scoreless.

The Colonels broke through just before the end of first half giving them a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes of play. Audrey Solt, Alyssa DeVita and Callahan all tallied a shot for the Lions in the first half.

Albright looked to find the equalizer in the second half of play. Albright recorded five shots testing the back line of defense of Wilkes for the majority of the second half.

However, the game tying goal was not meant to be as Wilkes escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Haley Denuto led the way recording three shots while Nyla Callahan added two shots of her own, both of which were on goal.

McKenna LeVan kept the Lions in the game finishing with four saves on the evening.
