READING, Pa. - The Albright men's soccer team (7-1-1) blanked the Delaware Valley Aggies (3-3-1) 2-0 tonight on their home field. Tonight's win is the seventh of the season for Albright and their fifth shutout on the season out of nine total games played.
Albright is now 2-1 since 2016 against the Aggies playing three games over that span.
The seven wins on the season are the most for Albright since the 2012 season (8 wins). With the seventh win tonight, the 2023 Lions have surpassed their combined win total from the 2021 season and the 2022 seasons (6 wins).
The first 45 minutes of play saw no goals on the score sheet but each team had their fair share of opportunities in the first half.
In the 20th minute of play Albright looked to go in front 1-0. John Villano got in behind the Delaware Valley defense but was denied by the Aggie netminder.
Five minutes later in the 25th minute, Myles Mitchell played the hero, clearing a ball off the Albright goal line keeping the game scoreless.
The Lions finally broke through in the 61st minute of play earning a penalty kick drawn by Curren Shesniak. Martin Ramsay stepped up to take the penalty and blasted his shot past the Aggie goalkeeper into the bottom right side of the goal giving Albright a 1-0 advantage.
Ramsay remains perfect on the season in converting penalty kicks sitting at 4-4. Tonight's goal was Ramsay's seventh of the season, keeping pace as of one of the premiere goal scorers in the MAC Commonwealth.
13 minutes later the Lions doubled their lead thanks to First Year Kiven Tah. Tah collected a bouncing ball and then fired on net leaving the Delaware Valley goalie no chance at making a save. For Tah it was his second goal of the year putting the Lions up 2-0.
Albright held it down for the remaining 20 minutes on the clock handing the Aggies their third loss of the season.
Chris Denholm was perfect in net once again for Albright picking up his third clean sheet of the season. Overall, today's clean sheet is the third straight for Denholm and for Albright.
Ramsay led the way with six shots and was followed closely by Villano who tallied five shots.
