Men’s Soccer Cruises to Third Straight Win to Start the Season; Downs Valley Forge 5-0

The Albright men’s soccer team shutout visiting Valley Forge 5-0 on Wednesday night winning their third straight game to begin the season.

READING, PA. - The Albright men's soccer team (3-0) cruises to their third straight win to begin the season defeating visiting Valley Forge (1-2) by a final score of 5-0. Martin Ramsay (2), Nathan Pufko, Grant Hernandez and Kevin Tah tallied the goals for the Lions.

The game remained scoreless for the first 13 minutes until the Lions drew a penalty kick on a decisive ball into the box.

Ramsay has now scored in three straight games to begin the season. The sophomore forward Ramsay took and buried the penalty kick in the right side of the net to beat the Valley Forge netminder. Ramsay's penalty kick goal came at the 13 minute mark and he has now scored in all three games this season.

Nathan Pufko came on as a substitute in the 29th minute and scored his first career goal just 11 minutes later. Off a corner kick, Luigi Costigliola found a streaking Pufko who did the rest and buried a header into the net.

The Lions dominated in the first half on the scoreboard and in corner kicks. Albright had nine corners to just one corner from Valley Forge. Goalkeeper Chris Denholm was called on just once to make a save in the first half and did just that, preserving the 2-0 halftime lead.

It was more of the same for Albright in half number two. The Lions drew their second penalty of the game and Ramsay finished it off again for his second goal of the game. Ramsay's fourth goal of the season made it 3-0.

The Lions tacked on two more goals later in the second half. Grant Hernandez made it 4-0 and Kevin Tah made it a 5-0 game to put it out of reach. Both Hernandez and Tah scored their first career goals for Albright in the process. Assisting on the goals were Vincent Simmons and Costigliola. For Costigliola it was his second assist of the game.

Albright scored early and often leaving little doubt who was the better side. In all, Albright finished with 16 corners and 28 shots, both of which are good for season highs in the early going.
