READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team (9-6, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) hosted Stevenson University (7-8, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) on Saturday (Jan. 13) in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) battle. The Lions prevailed in the end winning by a final score of 76-74.
Today's win moves the Lions to 2-2 in MAC Commonwealth play. The loss drops Stevenson to 1-3 in the Commonwealth.
Robert Mangum needed just one point coming into today's game to reach 700 for his career. Mangum eclipsed the 700-career point mark on a jump shot in the first two minutes of the game. Mangum filled up the box score this afternoon going for 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Chris Kouemi collected another double-double this afternoon going for 12 points and 11 rebounds on 6-9 shooting from the floor. Kouemi was well on his way to a double-double ending the first half with eight points and six rebounds. Kouemi now has four double-doubles on the season.
Stevenson scored the first four points of the game but that would be the only lead the Mustangs held all day. Albright carried a 39-35 lead into halftime on 50% shooting from the floor.
In the first half,
Qadir Mitchell scored 11 straight points for Albright from the 9:40-7:37 on the game clock. Mitchell had the hot hand drilling three three's during his personal scoring stretch. Mitchell ended the game as one of four Lions in double figures leading the team in scoring with 17 points. In addition to the scoring, Mitchell dished out a career high eight assists.
With 15 seconds to go, Stevenson cut the deficit to one at 75-74. On the ensuing inbound
Hasson Massenburg was fouled and made one of two at the line.
The ball was in the hands of the Mustangs for the game's final possession but the Lions defense was up to the challenge and did not let Stevenson get a good look at the basket. The final buzzer sounded and Albright walked away with a huge MAC Commonwealth victory.
Massenburg had another strong game for the Lions scoring in double figures for the fifth straight game. Massenburg shot 6-8 from the field including a three-pointer giving him 16 points.
Albright did a great job of getting out and running scoring 19 fast break points to Stevenson's six. The Lions shot 47.6% from the field for the game.

The men's basketball team will return to action on January, Wednesday 17 hosting York College (Pa.). The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off from the Bollman Center.
