READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team (5-10, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) hosted Stevenson University (4-10, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) on Saturday (Jan. 13) in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) battle. The Lions took today's game over the Mustangs 58-47.
Mackenzie Dover was one-point shy of 600 career points coming into the game today. Dover buried a jumper in the first quarter to eclipse the career milestone. Dover was the best player on the floor this afternoon going for a game high 17 points. Dover picked up her first double-double of the season grabbing 10 rebounds while adding six assists in a complete game for the dynamic guard.
The Lions held a four-point advantage at the half 32-28. Balanced scoring contributed to the halftime lead as Dover had 10 first half points,
Orianna Edmond with nine and
Julia Zakovitch with seven.
The Mustangs came into today's game as the best three-point shooting team in the MAC Commonwealth. The Albright defense was up to the challenge forcing Stevenson into their worst shooting day of the season. The Lions held the Mustangs to 3-23 (13.0%) from three-point range and 27.1% from the floor overall.
Albright won the game in the third quarter outscoring Stevenson 16-3 in the third frame. The Lions team defense was exceptional the whole game but especially in the third quarter holding the Mustangs to 1-18 from the floor.
Leading 48-31 heading into the final quarter, the Lions were well on their way to getting back to .500 in MAC Commonwealth play. Albright's lead never dropped below 11 points in the final frame winning the game 58-47.
Edmond was second on the team in scoring this afternoon scoring 13 points. Edmond was strong on the glass going for seven total rebounds and five of which were on the offensive end. Today's game was the 7
th of the season for Edmond scoring in double figures.
Kenedy Cooper rounded out the Lions in double figures going for 10 points. Cooper was perfect from the free throw line while adding three rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Zakovitch narrowly missed out on a double-double scoring eight points and collecting 10 rebounds.
