READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team (7-12, 4-4 MAC Commonwealth) played host to Alvernia (12-7, 4-4 MAC Commonwealth) in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) battle between the two rivals. The Golden Wolves won today's game over the Lions 69-62.
Mackenzie Dover once again led the Lions in scoring going for 19 points. Dover now has six straight games scoring in double figures and has scored 10 or more points in 14 straight games. Dover was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line while also adding eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. Of Dover's 19 points, 17 of them came in the second half.
Orianna Edmond finished one rebound shy of a double-double going for 10 points and nine rebounds. Edmond was strong on the offensive glass grabbing seven offensive rebounds. By halftime, Edmond already racked up six offensive rebounds.
At the end of the first quarter, Alvernia was clinging to a two-point lead at 18-16. The Golden Wolves went on to win the second quarter 14-10 taking a 32-26 lead into halftime. Kayla Williams of Alvernia scored 12 first half points.
With 6:52 left in the game, Albright pulled even with Alvernia at 51-51 on a
CJ Apistar jump shot. Over the next four minuets of game action, Alvernia began to pull away going on a 10-0 run to seal the road victory.
Julia Zakovitch was the third Lion of the afternoon to reach double figures going for 10 points. It is the 10
th time Zakovitch has reach double digits this season. The sophomore forward added three rebounds, all of which were of the offensive variety.
Gigi Serrano was strong off the bench for Albright playing 27 minutes and scoring eight points to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
Jacey Petruno recorded a new career high going for eight rebounds in today's game.
Albright went 18-21 from the free throw line. Dover, Zakovitch,
Kenedy Cooper and
Saidat Abbas all were perfect from the free throw line in the game. Albright outscored Alvernia 30-18 in second chance points while collecting 28 offensive rebounds as a team.
