READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team (8-5, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) opened up their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth road portion of the schedule on Saturday (Jan. 6) against Alvernia (10-3, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth). The Golden Wolves won today's game 88-83 over the Lions.
Albright and Alvernia were locked up in a tight game throughout. Neither team had a lead of more than eight points in today's game. The two sides played mostly turnover free basketball combing for 17 totals in the game.
The Lions led 43-37 at the half.
Hasson Massenburg and
Akhir Keys paced the Albright offense in the first 20 minutes. Massneburg went a perfect 5-5 from the field including one three good for 12 points. Keys buried two first half threes on his way to 10 first half points.
Alvernia climbed back into the game tying things up at 71-71 with 5:47 remaining. Robert Mullan had a big second half for the Golden Wolves finishing with 26 points in the game.
Chris Kouemi tied the game back up at 83-83 on a jumper assisted by
Eric Chamberlain. Mullan's number was called on the ensuing possession for Alvernia hitting a three to put the Golden Wolves up for good.
Albright had a look with under 10 seconds remaining but the ball did not bounce in the Lions favor. Alvernia escaped winning by a slim margin 88-83 over Albright.
Massenburg scored in double figures for the third straight game. The sophomore transfer dropped a career high 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the field. The Albright forward finished the afternoon with three rebounds and three assists.
Keys finished with a new career high in points going for 15. The first-year guard made three threes on 5-10 shooting overall in 22 minutes of game action.
Robert Mangum led all Albright scorers with 19 points. The fifth year Lion added eight rebounds and three assists to his overall stat line. The 19 points are good for a season high for Mangum.
Kouemi notched his third double-double of the season scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kouemi has also scored at least 12 points in three straight games.
Albright played relatively turnover free basketball this afternoon only recording nine. Albright made 10 threes as a team shooting 46.4% overall from the field.

The men's basketball team will remain on the road for their next game against Hood College. The Lions will head to Frederick, Maryland this Wednesday, January 10. The MAC Commonwealth contest is set for a 7 p.m. start time.
