GWYNEED MERCY, Pa. – Women's soccer (2-8-2) used two first half goals to their advantage to down Gwyneed Mercy (5-6-2) on Monday afternoon 2-0.
Gianna Glembocki and
Mackenzie Sowers scored for the Lions in the win.
Today's meeting was the first between the two sides since the 2011 season. Today's game also marked the last non-conference contest of the season for the Lions.
Albright earned their first shutout win of the season behind a five save shutout effort from
Alexis Solt in goal. Solt stopped all five shots she faced and led the defensive unit
Kelly Griffin,
Sarah Chernis,
Kaidence Weidenhammer and Glembocki in shutting down the Griffins offense.
Al. Solt's five saves are the most in Al. Solt's career that came in a shutout victory. Al. Solt's brilliance in net combined with strong defense gave Albright their first shutout win since October 4 of last season.
Glembocki got the Lions on the board early in the 11
th minute of play. The Lions earned a free kick right on the edge of the center of the 18-yard box. Glembocki did the rest stepping up to take the free kick and burying it in the top left corner of the goal. The goal is the first of the career for Glembocki.
Sowers scored her third goal of the season in the 26
th minute of the game. Sowers ran onto a through ball that was played perfectly from
Audrey Solt resulting in the team's second goal of the game. Au. Solt's assist is the third of the season and gives Au. Solt a three-game match point streak.
