READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team (3-2) played in their third game in the past two days playing host to Lycoming (3-8) at Kelchner Field. The Lions and Warriors were locked up in a tight battle throughout with Albright coming out on top in the end winning 9-8.
Jack Gilmer enjoyed a nice day at the plate going 2-3 for the Lions. The starting shortstop laced two singles for his two hits while coming around to score on three different occasions.
Roman Berretta recorded the biggest hit of the day for the Lions. Berretta stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and roped a double into left field that scored all three Lions on base. Berretta also reached base two more times being hit by a pitch both times.
Lycoming held a 3-0 lead heading into bottom of the third inning. In the home half of the third inning, Albright plated four runs to take a 4-3 lead.
Brendan Stuhltrager got the inning started with a two RBI single back up the box.
Albright would tack on five more runs across the fifth and six innings.
Nick Barton,
Chris Gorla and Berretta all recorded RBIs over those two innings. After seven innings of play, Albright was clinging to a 9-7 lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, Lycoming having already scored in the frame was looking to tie the game up. Head Coach
Justin Perry made the call to the bullpen bringing in the closer
Patrick Ahearn who recorded the game's final out giving the Lions a 9-8 win and earning himself a save in the process.
Dominic Yeager and
Nicolas Natalie were strong out of the bullpen for Albright keeping the Lions in the game. Yeager threw 3.1 innings striking out four while Natalie threw two innings of one run ball striking out three along the way.
Yeager was credited with the win today to improve to 1-1 this season. Ahearn earned the save collecting his first career save as an Albright Lion.
Deklyn Marks went 1-3 today with a single scoring two runs and earning a walk.

Albright will have tomorrow off before returning to play on Wednesday (Mar. 13) at home against Cabrini. The game is set for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
