Softball Drops a Pair of Home Games to Penn State Berks

It was a battle of Lions this afternoon as the Albright Lions welcomed the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions to campus on Tuesday afternoon. Penn State Berks took both ends of the double header this afternoon.

READING, Pa. – The Albright College softball team (3-7) welcomed nearby Penn State Berks (6-5) to campus in a battle of Lions. The Nittany Lions took both games of today's double header over the Albright Lions.

Game 1: L, 5-0

The Lions mustered out eight hits in game one led by three hits from Monica Hernandez. With three more hits today, Hernandez now has three multi hit games this season including two three hit games. After game one this afternoon the Hernandez is now up to a .367 batting average in the first nine games to begin the season.

Slaydon Fisher collected two of the Lions hits this afternoon recording a single both times. With two hits today, Fisher recorded her first multi hit game of the season and her Albright career.

The Nittanny Lions of Penn State Berks scored five runs over the final four innings of play to take game one over the Lions. The Albright pitching staff kept the Penn State Berks bats quite through the first three innings of play not allowing a single hit.

Rounding out the hits for Albright in game one was Veronica Heckman, Marissa Rovenstine and Madison Lasko. The trio of Lions all reached base by way of single. Rovenstine now has collected hits in back to back games.
 
GAME 2: L, 8-0 (5 INN)
Penn State Berks took game two over the Lions scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull away from Albright and ultimately win the game.

Slaydon Fisher went a perfect 2-2 in game two earning two singles. Fisher had a great day at the plate ending her day with four hits in five at bats.

Fisher has been on a torrid start to her Albright career having no issue adjusting to the college game. On the season Fisher is now up to a .360 batting average through the first 10 games of the season. Fisher has at least one hit in seven of the 10 games played this season.

The pitching duo of Kathryn Baptiste and Jadelyn Van Winkle combined to strike out five Nittany Lion batters in game two.

Albright will turn around in the next 48 hours heading to Rutgers-Camden on Thursday, March 21 for a double header. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and game two will follow game one.
