Men’s Lacrosse Dominates Rosemont Winning 25-2 on the Road

Albright got back in the win column in style on Wednesday afternoon winning wire to wire over Rosemont College 25-2. The 25 goals are the second most in a game in program history.

READING, Pa. – The Albright College men's lacrosse team (5-4) turned in a dominant performance from start to finish in today's game winning 25-2 over Rosemont (1-5). The 25 goals scored in today's game are the second most in team history and the second time Albright has scored 20 goals in a game this season.  

The Lions started fast scoring 15 goals in the opening 30 minutes on their way to scoring the second most goals in a game in program history. The 25 goals are the most in a game since the 2012 season when Albright beat Rosemont 26-1. It is the second time this season Albright has scored 23 or more goals in a game.

The two goals allowed in the game is the first time allowing two or less goals in game since shutting out Hood College in 2013 18-0.  

James Elko tallied nine of the Lions goals this afternoon adding to his impressive 2024 campaign. The nine-goal effort is a new career high for Elko and his third game this season scoring three or more goals in a game. Elko finished with a team high 11 points adding two assists.

Joost Van der Horst turned in his second game this season scoring six or more times in a game. Van der Horst has scored three or more goals in seven of the nine games played this season. The Lion attacker is up to 34 goals this season, increasing his MAC Commonwealth lead in goals. Van der Horst added two assists for eight points on the day.  

Justin Moroney recorded the third hattrick of the day for Albright scoring four goals. Moroney has been on fire as of late scoring three or more goals five straight games. Moroney is up to 20 goals this season giving Albright their fourth 20 goal scorer of the season.

Albright was in control from start to finish leading 15-0 at halftime. The Lions did not allow a goal until 9:17 left in the fourth quarter. Sean McNicholas made four saves in en route to his fifth win of the season. The Lions never trailed in the game winning wire to wire over Rosemont.

The Lions were relentless all afternoon firing 70 shots, a new season high for a game. Of the 25 goals scored 14 of which were assisted and six of which game on man up opportunities. Jack Burke led with four assists also adding a goal finishing the day with five points.

Rounding out the Lion goal scorers on the day was Nick Antonio with two goals, Jon Alvarez, Ryan Houghtaling and Luke Festa. The goal for Festa was the first of his Albright career. Antonio tallied two assists while Jon Alvarez, Lucas Dees and Festa all had one assist.
 
Up Next:
Albright will have the next 10 days off before returning to action on Saturday, March 30 against Misericordia at home. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start time from Shirk Stadium.
