GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright College softball team (3-9, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) jumped back into MAC Commonwealth play this afternoon on the road against Messiah (9-10, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth). The Falcons of Messiah kept their perfect MAC mark in tact taking both games of today's double header.
Today's double header was originally scheduled for Saturday (Mar. 23) but was moved to today due to heavy rain forecasted for the area tomorrow. Today's double header marks the second straight day of double header action for the Lions.
GAME 1: L, 9-0
Monica Hernandez led off the game with a single for the Lions. Through the first three MAC Commonwealth games, Hernandez has a hit in two of them. Additionally, Hernandez increased her team lead in hits collecting the 13
th hit of the Lions season during game one.
Messiah scored eight runs in the first two innings to pull away from the Lions and ultimately take game one of the double header.
Veronica Heckman and
Kaitlyn Aasheim recorded the second and third hits of the afternoon rounding out game one against Messiah.
Heckman doubled to left field in the second inning collecting her first extra base hit of the season.
Primarily appearing as a pitcher this season Aasheim tallied her first two at bats of the season in game one. Aasheim's hit in the second inning marked the first of the season for the sophomore Lion.
GAME 2: L, 12-3
The Lions bats fared better in game two recording five total hits by five different Lions.
Kathryn Baptiste had the big hit of the third inning which ended up being a three run third inning for the Lions. With
Aliza Langlois and Heckman on base, Baptiste roped a triple that cleared the bases for a pair of Lion runs and two RBIs for Baptiste.
Baptiste would come around to score in the inning on a passed ball from Messiah. The triple for Baptiste is the second this season for the sophomore Lion. Baptiste now has two of the three Albright triples this season.
Albright climbed back into the game in the third inning but Messiah was able to tack on runs late in the game to pull away from the Lions and take both games of today's double header.
Recording hits in game two for Albright was
Madison Lasko,
Cassidy Capolete, Langlois and Heckman.
Langlois double in the third inning was the first career extra base hit for Langlois later coming around to score for Albright.
The hit for Capolete marked the first career hit for the first year Lion. The hit came in the fourth inning of the game as Capolete beat out an infield single safely reaching first base.

The Albright Lions will return to action on Sunday, March 24 against Wilson College. The Lions and Phoenix will play two games with the first starting at 1 p.m.
