Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Home Defeat to St. Joseph’s of Long Island 11-9

The Lions played in their first game in 10 days today against St. Joseph’s of Long Island. Albright battled the rain and the Golden Eagles this afternoon but came up short dropping the contest 11-9.

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's lacrosse team (1-8) played in their first game in 10 days against visiting Saint Joseph's of Long Island (2-4) this afternoon. The Lions battled tough on a cold and rainy afternoon but came up just short dropping the game 11-9 to the Golden Eagles.

Brianna Kung scored three goals this afternoon to lead the way for the offensive unit. Kung's three goals in a game is the first time this season and the first time in Kung's career scoring three goals in one game. Kung is now up to nine goals this season in nine games played.

Lucy Moreland tallied two goals this afternoon on just four total shots. The multi goal game for Moreland marks the third time this season that Moreland has scored at least two or more goals in a game. Moreland added two ground balls to her overall stat line.

The Lions started out hot scoring six goals in the opening 15 minutes of game action. At the end of the first quarter Albright held a 6-3 advantage over St. Joseph's of Long Island.

The Golden Eagles begun to climb back into the game cutting their deficit to 7-5 at halftime. St Joseph's of Long Island took control of the game in the third quarter scoring five goals to Albright's one.

Over the final 15 minutes both defenses ramped up their effort not allowing either side to get a clean look at goal. In the end, the visiting Golden Eagles ended up on top winning 11-9 over the Lions.

Four Lions scored at least one goal this afternoon in the form of Riley Basht, Kayte Moist, Katelyn Patrick and Olivia Ball.

Basht finished with three points adding one assist to her two goals scored. Sarah Chernis tallied two assists on the afternoon for the Lions while also causing two turnovers.

Defensively, Mckenna Morrison was strong causing four turnovers.

The Lions will host Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, March 27 at Shirk Stadium. The game time is set for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
