Men’s Golf Wins LVC Invite Over 17 Team Field

The Albright men’s golf team turned in a team score of 311 to win the LVC Invite in a tiebreaker over Hood College.

LEBAON, Pa. – The Albright men's golf team wasted no time earning their first victory of the spring season at today's Lebanon Valley "Dutchmen Invite", the first tournament of the 2024 spring golf season. The Lions turned in a team score of 311 to win in a tiebreak over Hood College securing the win over the 17-team field.

Albright and Hood were tied at 311 needing a tiebreak to determine the winner. The tiebreak is determined by the two tied teams' fifth golfer in the lineup. Oliver Liljeblad was inserted to that spot this afternoon and beat Hood's number five golfer by four strokes to give the Lions the overall team win

Head Men's golf coach Eric Lamm was thrilled with today's performance. "It was a total team effort. We needed everyone in the lineup to play their game and they did just that. I am very pleased with today's results and hope to keep the momentum going into our home Invitational this Wednesday.

Albright's victory is the first of the spring season and the third win overall in the 2023-24 golf season. Albright won the Muhlenberg Invitational back in October and in the same month the Lions beat Alvernia in the Yocum Cup.

Today's win is impressive as they come as Albright won the Invite beating out 16 other teams in competition. Albright won with a team score of 311 navigating the tough Lebanon Country Club Golf Course.

Charles Bailey navigated the 6562 yard 72 par course with relative ease finishing in third place overall shooting a 73. Bailey finished just one over par and one stroke back of the first-place finishers. A birdie on the sixth hole gave Bailey an even par front nine 36. Bailey closed out his round at just one over par on the back nine including back to back birdies on holes 14 and 15.

Sam Elsen played a great round of golf this afternoon shooting a 77 which resulted in a tie for fifth place. Elsen shot the Lions second even par front nine on the day with a 36 birding holes five and seven. Elsen strung together five straight pars to end his round securing the top five finish.

Albright had three top 15 finishers today with Bailey, Elsen and Chris DiRita taking home 14th overall. DiRita fired an impressive 79 for the Lions third round in the 70's on the day. DiRita birdied holes one and four and was able to carry the early momentum in the remaining holes to finish better than half the field in competition.

Jonatan Liljeblad and Oliver Liljeblad turned in solid rounds finishing with an 82 and an 86, respectively. The twins both collected one birdie in their rounds to give every Lion in today's lineup at least one birdie. Jonatan birdied the 15th while Oliver birdied the 10th.
