READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's golf team hosted the "Albright Spring Invitational" this afternoon at the Galen Hall Golf Club. Albright claimed victory at today's Invitational shooting a team score of 320 in tough rainy conditions.
Rain fell throughout the day nearly making the course unplayable. Despite the unfavorable conditions the Lions never lost their confidence on the course battling on each and every hole.
The Lions had two teams participating in today's Invitational. Albright's A team and B team both took to the course this afternoon continuing their strong play. Today's Invitational was played at Galen Hall Golf Club.
The Lions A team took home first this afternoon beating eight other teams in competition.The Lions team score of 320 was eight strokes better than DeSales (2nd) and nine strokes better than Eastern (3rd). The victory for the A team is the fourth victory of the 2023-2024 golf season and the second straight victory for the Lions.
Albright won the Muhlenberg Invitational and Yocum Cup back in October and added to the win total this week by winning Monday's LVC Dutchmen Invitational and today's Albright Invitational.
Jonatan Liljeblad took home first place on the individual leaderboard this afternoon shooting a 74. The round of 74 was four strokes better than the next closest golfer on the course. Liljeblad shot an 82 at Monday's LVC Invitational and knocked off eight strokes this afternoon to claim the individual victory.
Ben Egin led the way for the Lions A team this afternoon shooting a 78. Egin's round of 78 was one stroke better than Zach Bruecks (Eastern) and teammates
Sam Elsen's round to take home second in the invitational today. Today's Invitational was the first action of the 2024 spring season for Egin.
Sam Elsen fired a 77 on Monday at the LVC Invitational and followed up that performance with another round in the 70's this afternoon. Elsen shot a 79 to finish second on the Lions A team and in a tie for third overall.
Evan Twyman was third on the Lions A team this afternoon shooting an 81 battling all day long in tough conditions. Twyman's round of 81 places him in a tie for fourth overall this afternoon, tying with two golfers from DeSales and one golfer from Eastern.
Charles Bailey and
Chris DiRita rounded out the day for the Lions A team shooting an 82 and 84, respectively. Bailey and DiRita were instrumental in both victories this week for the Lions playing a strong brand of golf.
The B team for Albright performed exceptionally well today. The scores for the B team are as follows,
Oliver Liljeblad shot an 83,
Colby Gaylor shot an 88,
Nick Smerek shot an 87 and
Connor Fields wrapped up the afternoon with a round of 100.
Kyle Vonderlinden was also in action today and preformed well shooting an 87.

The Albright Lions men's golf team will begin to prepare for the two-day Alvernia Invitational. The two-day Invitational will be held on April 1 and April 2 and will be played at Ledgerock Golf Club.
