BALTIMORE, Md. – The Albright men's lacrosse team (4-3) took to the field for the second time this week on Saturday afternoon on the road at Goucher (4-2) College. The Lions offense and defense both came to play this afternoon as Albright turned in a complete team effort to pick up the big 14-6 road victory.
With today's win the Lions secured their fourth win of the season in just seven games played. The four wins this season surpasses last season's win total of three.
Sean McNicholas turned in his best game as a Lion during his first year leading Albright to victory. McNicholas faced a total of 41 shots making a career high 14 saves. McNicholas is the first goalkeeper this season holding Goucher to six goals or less in a game.
Justin Moroney nearly outscored Goucher by himself this afternoon going for a career high five goals. The Lion attacker now has three straight games with a hattrick. Moroney could not be stopped in the second quarter as he scored four goals in the frame including three straight goals for Albright.
Albright held a slim 2-1 advantage after the first quarter on goals from
Jack Burke and
Nick Antonio.
Goucher scored two goals early in the second quarter to tie the game up at 3-3. The next six goals on the game and the second quarter all went to Albright. The Lions outscored the Gophers 6-2 in the frame to take an 8-3 lead into halftime.
The Lions continued to play a strong brand of lacrosse in the second half. Albright never allowed Goucher to get back into the game with the Lions seeing their lead never dip below a six-goal margin in the second half.
Albright opened the fourth quarter with three straight goals to put the game away picking a big road win over Goucher.
Burke finished the game with four goals and three assists. Burke's seven points today now gives him 33 points on the season.
James Elko and
Joost Van der Horst each scored a pair of goals this afternoon. Van der Horst added two assists to his overall stat line.
Ryan Conover caused three turnovers and scooped up three ground balls in a strong defensive game for the sophomore. The three caused turnovers marks a new career high.

Albright will have almost a week off before returning to play next Friday, March 15. The game against Eastern Conn. State from Shirk Stadium will begin at 1:00 p.m.
