Softball Sweeps Gallaudet on Senior Day

The Lions scored 10 runs in game one swinging hot bats and turned around to win game two behind a complete game shutout by Kaitlyn Aasheim.

READING, Pa. – The Albright softball team (7-28) picked up their first sweep of the season on senior day over Gallaudet (4-26) in two convincing wins. The Lions exploded for 10 runs on 16 hits in game one and shutout the Bison in game two behind a complete game shutout from Kaitlyn Aasheim.

In between the double header, the Albright Lions softball team took the time to honor their graduating seniors. The Graduating seniors are Veronica Heckman, Heather Pomante, Jordan Melson, Kathryn Baptiste and student manager Lacy Nolan.
 
GAME 1: W, 10-2
Albright exploded for 10 runs in game one winning the game in six innings. It is the first time the Lions have scored at least 10 runs in a game since the second and third games of the season.

As a team the Lions pounded out 16 total hits, a new season high for the squad. Gallaudet was held to only four hits in the game by the Albright pitching staff. Albright scored seven of their 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings alone.

Juliette Licata went a perfect four for four at the plate. Two of the four hits went for doubles marking the first game this season where Licata had multiple extra bases in a game. Additionally, Licata collected her first four hit game of her Albright career to go along with two runs and two RBIs.

In addition to Licata's four hit game, four other Lions collected at least two hits in the game.

Marissa Rovenstine, Madison Lasko, Vernonica Heckman and Slaydon Fisher all finished game with two hits each. All four Lions came across to score with Lasko and Heckman each scoring two runs.

Heckman, on senior day, drove in two runs. Heckman earned on RBI on a single and the other came on sacrifice fly in the three run sixth innings. Hernandez also plated two runs of her own coming on a two-run single in the fourth inning.

Jadelyn Van Winkle pitched tremendous in relief for the Lions throwing four innings one run ball. Van Winkle entered in the third inning of the game picking up her fourth win in the process. The Lion pitcher struck out three batters in the four innings of work.

Aliza Langlois recorded a pinch-hit single scoring Lasko on the play for an RBI.   
 
 
GAME 2: W, 3-0
Kaitlyn Aasheim was fantastic in the circle for the Lions in game two. Aasheim's complete game shutout secured the sweep for the Lions and turned in the second complete game of the season for the Albright pitching staff.

The dominating outing for Aasheim was the first time in her Albright career where she threw a complete game shutout. Aasheim scattered nine hits while striking out six batters. The six strikeouts also mark a new career high for the Sophomore Lion.

The defense did a fantastic job behind Aasheim committing no errors while turning multiple double plays.

Albright finished with nine hits in game two carrying over the momentum from game one too game two at the plate.

Aliza Langlois and Heather Pomante each had two hits in game two. Langlois added two runs scored to her overall stat line. For the senior Pomante, the game is the fourth time this season where Pomante has collected two hits in each game.

Senior, Kathryn Baptiste notched two RBIs in the game two win. Baptiste singled through the right side in the third inning scoring Langlois and Juliette Licata.

Rounding out the hits in game two was Marrissa Rovenstine, Madison Lasko and Licata.

The Lions will wrap up their season at home tomorrow against Hood. The double header will start at 1 p.m. with game two to follow.
