READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team (1-0) got off to a fast start to begin their season scoring two goals in the first three minutes of play. The fast start for Albright carried them to a 4-0 shutout win over Penn State Berks (0-1).
Today's game marked the season opener for both sides. With today's win, Albright has run their unbeaten streak to five games over Penn State Berks. The four goals scored are the most against the Nittany Lions since 2014.
Christian Bowles wasted no time introducing himself to Albright scoring the first and last goals of today's game. Bowles, a transfer from Millersville, scored just over a minute into the game giving the Lions the lead in the early going. Bowles day was not done as he added his second of the game in the 73
rd minute off an assist from
John Villano.
Martin Ramsay added the games second goal less than a minute later. Ramsay converted from the penalty spot leaving the Nittany Lion goalie with little chance at a save. Ramsay has a knack for scoring in the opening game of the season for the Lions as the junior forward has scored in every season opener for Albright since arriving on campus.
Lucas Capelini made it three goals in the first half for Albright. Capelini notched his first career goal as a Lion this afternoon after collecting a pass from
Daniel Lowman who was credited with an assist on the play.
The Lions outshot Penn State Berks 8-3 in the first half to lead at the half 3-0.
After Bowles added his second goal of the game in the second half, the Albright defense stood tall to preserve the shutout win in front of a nice sized crowd at Shirk Stadium.
Bowles and Ramsay tied for the team lead in total shots with four. Overall, seven different Lions were credited with at least one shot in today's game.
Chris Denholm earned the start and combined for the shutout win with
Cooper Walters. Denholm was credited with one save on the day.
