IMMACULATA, Pa. – The 2024 field hockey season got underway on Saturday afternoon for the Albright Lions (0-1) with a road match against Immaculata (1-0). The Mighty Macs protected home turf and won today's game 1-0.
Today's game marked the official start of head coach
Catherine Wiese (Ostoich) third season in charge of the Albright field hockey program. Coach Wiese has amassed 17 wins in her first two seasons at Albright.
The first period stayed scoreless until early in the second period when Immaculata scored the game's only goal. Alexis Andrada tallied the goal for the Mighty Macs.
Albright spent most of the game and the second half in the offensive zone. The Lions outshot Immaculata 17-3 while five of those shots were on goal.
Amanda Smith and
Olivia Lorah paced the offensive attack. The duo both added on shot on goal. On Thursday of this past week, Lorah was named to the NFHCA D3 watchlist of premiere players throughout the country alongside teammate
Chelsea Johnson.
The Lions also had the advantage in corners in the game with nine to the Mighty Macs three. Immaculata's goalkeeper saved all five Albright shots on goal to persevere the shutout.
McKena Cox,
Olivia Cimino each had two shots while Johnson,
Aliza Langlois and
Keliah Santiago all had one shot each.
