Fatima Rizvi Wins Weyhill Classic in First Collegiate Tournament

Fatima Rizvi, playing in her first collegiate tournament for the Lions, put together a fantastic round shooting 77 on her way to victory at the Weyhill Classic hosted by Moravian University.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Women's golf opened up their 2024 fall schedule on Monday afternoon playing in the Weyhill Classic hosted by Moravian University. First-year Fatima Rizvi won the tournament with a round of 77. Ilaria Catania and Braidan Wastler rounded out the Lions competing today.

Saucon Valley was the site of the Weyhill Classic and played 5103 yards and a par of 71. A total of 17 golfers were in the field today.

"It is so great to see Fatima earn low medalist honors in her first ever college tournament!  Also to see Ilaria tie for 3rd place in only her 2nd year was fantastic!

Fatima Rizvi won the tournament on the same day she made her Albright debut today. Rizvi is a first-year golfer for the Lions who no stranger to playing in golf tournaments. In high school, Rizvi was a well-known golfer playing for RPS Academies in Florida. Her scoring average in high school was an impressive 77.

Since Rizvi is no stranger to playing in golf tournaments the Albright Lion looked as comfortable as ever for her first collegiate tournament. Rizvi shot a 77 finishing five strokes ahead of second place. Rizvi birdied two holes while playing the five par threes on the course at just one over par. Additionally, Rizvi was the only golfer to record at least two birdies in the field.

Ilaria Catania finished tied for fourth with a round of 86. Catania is coming off an impressive first year campaign taking home MAC Commonwealth Second Team honors at the 2024 MAC Commonwealth Golf Championships. The now sophomore played her last three holes at just one over par to secure the top 5 finish.

Braidan Wastler played in her first round of the season coming in at a 105. Wastler got stronger as the round went on playing the last three holes at just one over par marking one of only three golfers in the field to accomplish that feat.

Albright will be at the Golden Oaks shootout for a two-day tournament on September 29th and 30th. Both days will get underway at 9:30 a.m.
