ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Albright Football (3-3, 2-3 MAC) traveled to St. Davids for a road match against Eastern (5-1, 4-1 MAC). Both defenses came to play in a back-and-forth battle resulting in a 17-10 Eastern win.
The Lions' defense made an immediate impact on Eastern's first drive with a turnover in the form of a
Darien Osmun interception. Osmun would go on to finish the game with a team high nine tackles.
Following a stalled drive by the offense,
Mamadou Koita would fall on a fumbled snap for the defense's second turnover in as many possessions. Koita finished tied for second with seven tackles of his own.
After the fumble recovery,
John Boston would take an outside handoff six yards for the game's first score on a second and goal from the six and accounted for 92 total yards of offense.
Eastern would score a touchdown and kick a field goal late in the second half to enter halftime with a narrow 9-7 lead over the Lions.
The opening possession of the second half would result in an Eastern punt allowing
Chase Roberts and company to take over at the 26-yard line. Roberts would find
Kyle Sapovchak for a clutch catch to convert a third down before later moving the chains on a fourth and two via a six-yard rush in the form of a QB draw.
Logan Rothberg would haul in a 13-yard reception to convert a long third down which would eventually setup a field goal from
Colin Schaeffer allowing for the Lions to take a 10-9 lead in the final minute of the third quarter.
With Eastern taking the lead on their following drive, the Lions needed a defensive stop after punting the ball back to the Eagles with just under nine minutes to play.
Evan Bryfogle would take advantage of a bad snap and bring down Eastern's QB for a six-yard loss to force a second and 16.
Just under four minutes would be left on the clock when Albright's offense fielded a punt in need of a touchdown to tie the game. Unfortunately for the Lions, Eastern's defensive line would wake up for a pair of sacks which would eventually result in a turnover on downs allowing the Eagles to enter victory formation.
Samuel Moratori would end the day with five tackles, all solo, to surpass the 200 tackles mark for his career (201).
