Women’s Basketball Opens Season at Montclair State

The 2025-2026 women’s basketball season began today for the Lions with a road game against Montclair State. The Red Hawks topped the Lions 62-56 on Friday night.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Women's basketball (0-1) began their season on Friday evening on the road against Montclair State (1-0). The game marked the first of the season for both teams with the Red Hawks winning 62-56 over the Lions.

Today's meeting was the fifth all-time between Albright and Montclair State. With today's win the Red Hawks hold a 3-2 series advantage.

Montclair State jumped out to a 25-8 lead after the end of the first quarter. Albright climbed back into the game in the second quarter to trim their deficit to 33-20 at the half. Chrisdin Jones led all Albright scorers with eight first half points on 4-6 shooting from the field.

The Lions battled back in the game in the second half outscoring the Red Hawks over the game's final 30 minutes.

Albright trimmed the lead to two on a Gigi Serrano layup making the score 58-56 in favor of Montclair State. Over the games' final minute Montclair State made their free throws to ice the game and escape with a win on their home court.

Jones led all scorers with a career high 20 points. The point total bested her previous career high by seven points. The sophomore guard collected eight rebounds to go along with two steals. Jones shot 9-14 from the floor in a solid first game of the season.

Serrano was the second Lion to finish the game in double figures having 10 points on 5-8 shooting. Serrano played 32 minutes filling up the stat sheet recording eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Julia Parmelee chipped in with eight points and Julia Zakovitch added seven points.

Albright out rebounded Montclair State 35-26.

Albright will host Stockton on Wednesday, November 12. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Bollman Center in the Lions home opener.
