Qadir Mitchell’s Career Night Sends Men’s Basketball Past Kean

A game that featured 20 lead changes saw the Lions prevail in the end winning on the road over Kean University.

UNION, N.J. - Men's basketball (4-5) went on the road for their fourth game in their last five overall winning a thriller over Kean (5-5) 82-79 out of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Qadir Mitchell poured in a career high 37 points to give Albright their third straight victory. 

A high scoring affair in the first half saw Albright hold a 41-39 advantage going into halftime. The Lions led for a majority of the first 20 minutes leading for 17:42 of game time.

The second half remained closely contested throughout as neither team led by more than four points. With 10 total lead changes over the game's final minutes, Albright took the lead for good with 2:42 remaining.

Phanique Dupree was fouled and sent to the line with eight seconds remaining. Dupree made the first and missed the second however Micthell collected the offensive rebound and scored two to put the Lions up four to ultimately close out the game.

Mitchell had his full game on display this evening scoring a career high 37 points. The senior guard was 16-23 from the floor which included three made three's. The point total is five points shy of the fifth most in a single game in Albright program history.

As for the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth division Mitchell's scoring output is the third most of any player this season. 37 points are the most in a game since current assistant coach Eric Chamberlain scored 30 against Alvernia last season.

Albright out rebounded Kean 44-32. Dupree controlled the glass for the Lions hauling in a career high 15 rebounds. It is the third straight game Dupree has finished in double figures scoring 19 tonight giving him his second double-double of the season.

Jeremiah Stanton played 38 minutes running the offense for Albright. Stanton is the MAC leader in total assists and assists per game adding to that total with eight more tonight. 10 points and five rebounds were credited to Stanton putting up a familiar statline.

Spencer Fuller-Wright tied a career high in rebounds with eight while Chase McWhite tallied six points, six rebounds and four assists.

Albright will host their annual Holiday Tournament on December 29 and 30. The Lions will open play on Dec. 29 against Pitt-Greensburg tipping off at 4:00 p.m.
