READING, Pa. – Men's Basketball (3-5) returned to the Bollman Center after a lengthy road trip to host Stevens (4-3). Through 40 minutes of play which included seven lead changes and five ties, the Lions came up clutch when it mattered most to secure a 79-74 win. The win is the second straight for Albright after beating Lebanon Valley on Tuesday of this week.
After the ducks scored the games' first two baskets, the Lions would then embark on a 26-9 run to build up their largest lead of the night.
Akhir Keys played a large part in the team's early run going making his first three attempts from downtown. Keys finished with 11 points and continued his stretch of having at least two made three's in every game this season.
Jeremiah Stanton led all scorers with a career best 22 points and dished out a team best four assists in 33 minutes on the court. Tonight's game was Stanton's third with 18 or more points on the season. Additionally, Stanton has recorded at least four assists in every game this season.
As a team the Lions were able to capitalize on the fast break with 13 points including a number of buckets from
Qadir Mitchell who finished with 17 points on 10 shots in addition to three steals.
With a six-point lead going into halftime (40-34), the Lions were looking for key defensive stops while making sure to keep their offense rolling.
Spencer Fuller-Wright did a little bit of everything in 20 minutes of play dishing out a pair of assists and tied Mitchell with three steals.
With under seven minutes to play the Lions found themselves facing their largest deficit of the game (64-57) after the Ducks' high-powered offense started getting in sync.
Phanique Dupree and
Chase McWhite would save their best moments for when it mattered most and helped engineer a 22-10 run to close out the game.
Dupree finished with a game best four blocks while McWhite's 14 points were good for third amongst the Lions. McWhite would force a turnover in the final seconds before converting a pair of free-throws to put the game out of reach in favor of Albright.
