Qadir Mitchell Game-Winner Sends Men’s Basketball Past Alvernia 85-84

Qadir Mitchell answered the call with the game on the line and drilled a fade away jumper in the lane to down Alvernia on the road 85-84.

READING, Pa. – Qadir Mitchell buried a fade away jumper in the lane with just seconds to go to send men's basketball (11-7, 6-2 MAC Commonwealth) past Alvernia (12-7, 4-4 MAC Commonwealth) in an 85-84 thriller.

Qadir Mitchell played hero in today's game as the junior Lions fade away jumper in the lane found nothing but net to put the Lions up one with three seconds to go. The game-winning bucket highlighted another strong shooting performance for Mitchell as he finished with a game high 24 points.

Mitchell has been a weapon off the bench all season and today was no different. Mitchell shot 9-15 from the floor, including two threes for his third 20 plus point outing of the season.

Phanique Dupree's fantastic season carries on as Dupree recorded five more blocks this afternoon to set the new program record for blocks in a single season with 74. Dupree has recorded at least three blocks in every conference game this season.

In addition to the blocks, Dupree collected his second straight double-double and his ninth overall this season. The forward went for 18 points and 10 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes, wrapping up an impressive day on the hardwood.

Eric Chamberlain was an efficient 6-9 shooting from the floor for 19 points. The do it all guard filled the stat sheet adding three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jeremiah Stanton has begun to find his groove offensively for the Lions, giving the team another scoring threat. Stanton scored 17 points today which marks a new season high along with his third straight game scoring 14 points or more.

Albright trailed by four at the half but quickly erased the deficit taking a 50-46 lead just three minutes into the game's final 20 minutes. Albright led by as much as eight in the second half.

A free throw with 25 seconds left from Alvernia put the Golden Wolves up 84-83. After a couple of timeouts by Albright, the Lions got to the play they wanted, giving Mitchell room to operate to hit the game-winner and send the Albright faithful home with a victory.

The win is the Lions fifth in the team's past six games overall having won the last three in a row. The 6-2 start in conference play is the best start for Albright in the past 12 seasons.
