FREDERICK, Md. – Dazzling second half offense from the Albright Lions was the difference in today's game as the team beat the Hood Blazers for the second time this season 96-87 on Wednesday night. The win is the fourth straight for Albright and their sixth win in their last seven games overall. Albright improves to 12-7 overall and 7-2 in MAC Commonwealth play. Hood falls to 14-6 and 7-2 in conference play.
For the first time since the 2018 season, Albright swept the two regular season meetings over Hood and won on the Blazers home floor for the first time since the same year.
Albright scored a season high 96 points this evening due in large part to a 58-point second half. Getting contributions from up and down the lineup, Albright shot 48.6% from the three point-range making 11 second half threes. The Lions made seven threes in the first half, giving them 18 threes for the game.
Four Lions ended the game in double figures while five Lions made at least two threes.
This past week
Eric Chamberlain was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week and was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the week. Chamberlain became the first Albright Lion to make the D3Hoops.com Team of week since 2021.
Chamberlain picked up right where he left off scoring 23 points today. The 20 plus point game is the 8
th such game of the season for the senior guard. Chamberlain added three rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jeremiah Stanton had a career day going for six made threes giving him 20 points in the game. The six threes mark a new career high while the 20 points ties a career high.
Albright trailed by nine at the break 47-38. The Lions trailed by as many as 14 in the second half but remained competitive. A 29-15 run throughout the first 10 minutes of the second half pulled the Lions level with Hood at 68-68.
Over the games' final eight minutes, the defense ramped up making life difficult for the Blazers. Albright stretched their lead to 90-83 with three minutes left and were able to close out Hood on their home floor for the well-earned victory.
Qadir Mitchell found his groove in the second half scoring 12 of his 15 points over the games final 10 minutes.
Phanique Dupree was the fourth Lion in double figures scoring 12 points on 5-8 shooting.
Isaac LaPierre drilled both of his three-point attempts for eight points total while hauling in seven rebounds.
Joey Callahan and
Chris Kouemi each chipped in with six points.
Albright was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line led by Mitchell and Chamberlain, both going 3-3.
