READING, Pa. – Women's basketball would not be denied of their fifth straight win on Saturday afternoon beating Alvernia 57-55 on the road. The five straight wins has pushed the Lions to an 11-7 overall record and a 5-3 mark in MAC Commonwealth play. Alvernia drops to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in Commonwealth play.
Albright ended a four-game skid against Alvernia and won on the Golden Wolves home floor for the first time since December of 2021.
The five straight wins have all come in conference play. Three of the five wins came down to the game's final possession, but the Lions have prevailed every time.
Albright's defense was outstanding yet again this afternoon holding their sixth straight opponent to 68 points or fewer. Alvernia led after the first 10 minutes but was shut down in the second quarter. Albright outscored Alvernia 17-8 in the second, taking a 29-22 lead into the break.
CJ Apistar did not leave the court today playing forty minutes of game action marking the first time the junior guard has done so. Apistar tied her career high in rebounds with nine and scored eight points while adding four steals.
Alvernia had the ball trailing by one with under 30 seconds to go. The Lions needed one more stop to secure the victory and did just that as Alvernia missed the go-head shot.
Julia Parmelee sank one of two free throws with one second remaining giving the Lions a two-point win.
Shkyla Mayo tied Apistar with eight points leading the team. Mayo went a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line.
Mackenzie Dover,
Chrisdin Jones and
Kenedy Cooper all chipped in with seven points. The trio combined for 25 rebounds led by Jones career high of 10. Dover tallied eight while Copper recorded seven rebounds.
Orianna Edmond hauled in 12 rebounds, giving the forward her fourth game this season with 10 or more rebounds. Edmond added six points and three blocks on the defensive end.
Albright outrebound Alvernia 56-38 including 24-8 advantage in offensive rebounding. The bench unit for the Lions proved to be the difference outscoring Alvernia's bench 22-8.
