READING, Pa. – The Albright Men's Basketball team (14-7, 9-2 MAC Commonwealth) played the second of two straight at home against the York Spartans (16-6, 9-2 MAC Commonwealth). The Lions found themselves trailing by double digits numerous times throughout the game but kept fighting back to win by a score of 81-71 in overtime. The win places them in the tie with York at the top of the MAC Commonwealth standings with three games to go in the regular season.
Chris Kouemi scored a season high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds and a pair of assists in addition to recording two steals.
Also present on the defensive end was
Phanique Dupree who continues to put up dominant numbers with another six blocks and 12 points. Dupree's offense came alive down the stretch which allowed him to finish with his 10
th double-double of the season via 10 points of his own.
Halftime looked bleak for the Lions as they trailed by a score of 44-34 and were looking for ways to both spark their offense, while containing York's explosive shooting performance.
With 8:10 to go in regulation the Lions faced their largest deficit of the night and trailed 62-49. What then followed was an incredible 19-6 run by the Lions to close out regulation.
Jeremiah Stanton dropped 15 points to wind up one of four Lions with double digit points which included the Junior scoring the team's first eight points and dishing out a team high six assists.
Eric Chamberlain led all scorers with 26 points which included hitting on 11 of 12 free-throws in addition to recording five assists and four steals. Chamberlain drew a shooting foul in the final second of regulation giving him a chance to tie the game with three free-throw attempts.
After Chamberlain converted all three of his free-throws, the score was tied 68-68 after York had previously held the lead the entire game. The Lions defensive effort in the second half held the Spartans to only 24 points on 37% shooting which included only two three-pointers on 12 attempts.
From that point on it was all Lions, as the team owned the overtime period and held the Spartans to only three points to win 81-71.
The Bollman Center continues to feature packed crowds celebrating and cheering on the Lions as the team approaches the end of their regular season.
