Men’s Lacrosse Drops Heart Breaker to Moravian in Home Opener

The Lions and Greyhounds were neck and neck throughout the game on a snow covered Shirk Stadium field on Saturday afternoon. Moravian scored with under 15 seconds on the clock to steal a win over Albright.

READING, Pa.  – The Albright men's lacrosse team (0-2) welcomed Moravian (1-0) to town on Saturday afternoon in the Lions home opener. Snow began to cover the field midway through the second period making life tough on both teams. Moravian scored the last goal of the game which proved to be the game winner to beat Albright 16-15 in an exciting game.

Despite the loss, the Lions were able to find their offensive groove, scoring 15 goals compared to only five a week ago.

James Elko led the way for Albright, scoring a team high four goals. Elko finished the game with six total points dishing out two assists.

Jack Burke and Justin Moroney both scored three goals in today's contest pacing the Lions offensive attack. Burke added three assists to tie Elko with six points for the team lead.

Burke continues to climb up the all-time scoring list in program history with another strong game this afternoon. Burke now has 122 career goals placing him in a tie for fourth all time with recent Albright Hall of Fame inductee Philip Potter. Burke also is now tied with Cam Cetrone for fourth all time in assists with 56 and is solo fourth all time in total points with 178 career points.

Albright started the game, getting out to a quick 5-1 lead. Moravian was able to close the gap before the first 15 minutes ran off the clock making it a 6-5 Lions lead after the first. The first half was close throughout seeing Albright take a two-goal lead into halftime.

Moravian came out of halftime, scoring five goals to Albright's one in the third quarter to take their first lead of the game at 14-12. With under 15 seconds left and the game tied at 15, Moravian scored the game's final goal to steal a win on the Lions home field.

Nick Antonio and Joost van Der Horst both found the back of the net twice. Van der Horst added two assists while Antonio picked up an assist of his own. Ryan Houghtaling tallied one goal on the afternoon to round out the offense for the Lions.

Hunter Fitterling continues to be a force defensively causing three turnovers while collecting seven groundballs. Fitterling has caused three turnovers in back-to-back games to start the year.

Justinus Park won over half of his faceoffs and tallied six ground balls in the process.
